Package-2 of Dwarka Expressway Starts
Homebuyers who had invested in property in sectors near Dwarka Expressway can rejoice in the good news that the much-delayed package 2 of Dwarka Expressway has been approved by the Delhi government. Manoj Kumar, chief general manager, NHAI, said that the preparatory work on package 2 has started and the construction company is setting up a camp at the site”. Package 2 consists of a 4.5 km section that will have 8 elevated lanes and 6 surface lines which will connect people from Urban Estate Road-2 and India International Convention Centre in Dwarka Sector 25 to Gurgaon where the remaining 2 packages (3 and 4) of Dwarka Expressway are under construction. The section is expected to have multiple entry and exit points to smoothen the movement of vehicles from Najafgarh, Dwarka and west Delhi. It will also have a toll plaza.
The almost 1.5 years delay in the project was because of the hesitation of Delhi government to go ahead with the felling of nearly 6,500 trees on Dwarka Expressway site. After much deliberation and consultation, the approval has been given to NHAI for cutting trees. With this approval, work has initiated on the 4.5 km elevated road from Dwarka Sector 21 rail overbridge towards the Haryana border. According to Manoj Kumar, chief general manager, NHAI, the work on this stretch will be completed within 24 months. Incidentally, work on package 3 & 4, which is already underway is expected to end by December 2020.
Dwarka Expressway will ease the commuting time in Delhi by connecting Mahipalpur to Kherki Daula on the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway. While the first two packages of the Dwarka Expressway (11 km) are in Delhi, the remaining 18.1 km lies in Haryana. The contract for package-2 is awarded to a private contractor, J Kumar Infra projects at a cost of over ₹1,500 crore. Residents and home buyers who were protesting the delay in construction of the expressway will be happy to know that earth-moving machines have started to clear the approach road to the main carriageway. Boards are also being mounted near the Delhi-Haryana border to demarcate the site.
