Dwarka Expressway formally known as Northern Peripheral Road or NH 248-BB is a 27.6 km long, under construction, 8-lane, controlled-access freeway (Highway) connecting Dwarka in Delhi to Gurugram in Haryana. This entire project was planned in 2006 with a budget cost of INR 75,000 crore for which contract was awarded in 2011.  Out of the original 18 kilometer stretch of Dwarka Expressway; 14 kilometer was completed till 2016.  However several others kilometer projects route was added to the scope of the project as an extension at the later stage. Earlier various parts of the project remained delayed due to land acquisition issues and tree transplantation hurdles however after the PMO’s intervention all the pending issues were resolved and land was handed over to NHAI by different authorities of Haryana and Delhi.

 

A 3.2 km long Central Peripheral Road (CPR) was also been planned to connect it to Southern Peripheral Road (SPR) at Kherki Daula Toll plaza on NH-48. Significantly The purview of the project was expanded and the proposed Central Peripheral Road (CPR) and 6.3 km long section of Urban Extension Road-II (UER II) is included as part of the expressway.


If we talk about Dwarka Expressway as a real estate zone We are refering to various sector of Gurugram from 98 To 115 along with sectors 37-C and 37-D as per master plan of Gurugram. Accordingly in broader terms Sectors between 58-76 were referred as Southern Peripheral Road. Sector 77 to 97 fall into the classification of New Gurgaon. Hence sectors falling into the stratification of Dwarka Expressway have the edge due to its proximity to Proposed Dwarka Expressway.

The Dwarka Expressway is being constructed in different packages; Packages 1 & 2 are in Delhi and total 9.5 km in length. Package 1 (5.3 km) starts from Shiv Murti at NH-48 and ends at the Rail under Bridge near Sector 21, Dwarka. Package 2 (4.2 km) begins from the Rail under Bridge and ends at the Delhi Haryana border on the expressway. Packages 3 & 4 are in Gurugram which is 19 km in length. Package 3 is 10.2 km long stretching on the expressway. This will pass through 102, 103, 104, 105, 106, 109, 110, 111, 112 and 113 sectors in Gurugram. The last stretch of 8.7 km comprises of Package 4 and starts from Rail over Bridge at Basai and ends at a cloverleaf interchange near Kherki Daula. Package 5 is also in Delhi which will connect Dwarka Expressway to T3 of IGI airport. With package 5, the entire length of the Dwarka Expressway in Delhi comes to 10.1 km.

 

The route alignment is as follows:

In Delhi –

  • Mahipalpur (begins at Shiv Murti on 20 km milestone of NH-48
  • IGI Airport
  • Dwarka
  • Bijwasan railway station

In Haryana –

  • New Palam Vihar in Gurgaon
  • Kherki Daula Toll Plaza (terminates here at Delhi-Mumbai expressway and Southern Peripheral Road)

As per the conversation with a senior official of the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), more than 30% expressway has already been completed. Contracts have been awarded to four construction companies this time with strict timelines. Further NHAI officials stated that 16 lanes expressway starting from the Delhi Gurugram expressway at Shiv Murti and going all the way to Kherki Dhaula toll plaza via Dwarka Sector 21, Gurugram border and Basai has been divided into four packages.

Not Exactly however Dwarka Expressway is nearly 81% completed also the obstacles to the completion of the much-awaited Dwarka Expressway have been cleared and is expected to be operational within a year. (Source:NHAI).

As per (Manoj Kumar, CGM-NHAI), Preliminary work on much awaited package-2 a 4.5-km-long elevated road from Dwarka Sector 21 rail over bridge to the Haryana border — has started and the contractor is setting up a camp at the site.

 

Package 2 will have separate elevated structures (8-lane, 6-lane and 2-3 lanes for ramp) running parallel to each other. These 14 lanes would provide excellent connectivity to Najafgarh and Gurgaon border. There will be multiple entry and exit points from UER-2 and India International Convention and Expo Centre located in sector 25 Dwarka.

 

Package 3 (Haryana border to Basai Railway overbridge) and Package 4 (Basai overbridge to CPR/SPR/NH8 Junction) of Dwarka expressway, which falls in Haryana are being constructed by Larsen & Toubro company. The project was awarded to L&T in December 2018 and the work is expected to be completed in 24 months. The entire stretch is to be an elevated one with 2 exit points at Babarpur & Pataudi Road.

Dwarka Expressway is one of the upcoming locations which has generated great buzz in public. Many people are concerned whether the Dwarka Expressway is a good investment or not. The proposed metro route would begin from Huda City Centre and reach Sector 23 via Subhash Chowk, Hero Honda Chowk, Dwarka Expressway near Sector 101 and 104 and Sectors 4, 5, 10A, 10, 9 & 9A. as per the revised plan, there will be 22 stations on this route. The metro link will turn 600-700m before the station as per the new plan. The government has also approved to connect the Yellow line with Gurugram through a 16 km route. The metro project is being jointly developed by GMDA and HMRTC and is expected to cost INR 1,785 crore.

Dwarka Expressway Sector Details

Dwarka Expressway is a project to connect Dwarka Delhi to Gurugram with 8 lanes Northern-Peripheral Road (NH 248-BB). The 29.1 kilometer long controlled-access highway is under construction and soon be completed as per the current news. It will take off from Shiv Murti at Mahipalpur, Delhi and terminate at Kherki Daula Toll Plaza, Gurugram, Haryana.
