Kherki Daula Toll Plaza to be Shifted Away from Gurugram City
The residents of Gurugram living near Dwarka Expressway have been having a tough time as they must pay the toll for traveling from one part of the city to the other till recently. The Kherki Daula toll plaza on Delhi-Jaipur highway charges localities every time they cross it to go to another part of Gurugram. Apart from this MCD toll booths are operating for commercial vehicles. Paying toll every day has caused huge economic issues with the residents residing near Dwarka Expressway.
Senior government officials, however, have some great news for Gurugram residents. The toll plaza will shift from its current location (within city limits) to almost 15 km along the Jaipur highway. Both Punjab and Haryana high courts have provided the required permission to the state government to shift the toll plaza to Pachgaon. 50 acres of land has been permitted to the state government in Pachgaon for construction of the toll plaza.
Kherki Daula plaza has been in the eye of the storm as there have been several protests by residents regarding paying the toll. Additionally, it was a major point during the assembly elections for BJP with them losing the Badshapur seat to an independent candidate, Rakesh Daultabad due to this. Travelling across Gurugram will become easier and cheaper for residents living near Dwarka Expressway since they will no longer be required to pay a toll every time.
According to a senior government official, the land for construction of toll plaza in Pachgaon was obtained after a long judicial process. This was possible after providing relevant papers from all concerned departments supporting their argument in court. Once the order is obtained, an action plan will be drafted and within 3-4 months of that, the structure of toll plaza should be ready at the new location.
As per some reports, Kherki Daula toll plaza was supposed to be shifted to Sehrawan; however, the plan was dropped as the area was a wildlife corridor and shifting of toll plaza would have harmed the environment.
The president of the United Association of New Gurugram, Mr. Ashok Kumar Malik, informed that the court had given an order for releasing 50 acres of land in order to shift the Kherki Daula toll plaza to Panchgaon after hearing the public interest petition filed in January 2019. With the court’s ruling, the state government will transfer the land to NHAI for the construction of the toll plaza. The court’s verdict was delivered by a 2-judge bench headed by Manjuri Nehru and Rajan Gupta after hearing arguments for two days between landowners and Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC).
