New Railway Station to come up in Sector 101 Dwarka Expressway, Gurugram
There is no denying the fact that Gurugram has emerged as one of the most popular destinations in NCR. With several MNCs having their offices in various sectors in the region, the area is witnessing spectacular growth, especially in terms of real estate. For improved connectivity, the Haryana Government aims to set a new railway station in the city. The new station will come up in Sector 101 along Dwarka Expressway in 25 acres of area. The project will be applied by Haryana Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation (HRIDC), Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC) along with Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA).
Since the city has expanded exponentially, there is a need for a larger railway station to cater to the several passengers commuting on a daily basis. The location for the new railway station has been identified along Dwarka Expressway. This way the residents of both Old and New Gurugram can use it. According to a senior official of GMDA, since the project is still in the conception stage, assigning a time frame for the completion of the project is not possible. The project is part of Haryana’s orbital rail system which aims to connect major cities of Haryana by rail network.
Since the project is an ambitious one, the state government requires a detailed project report. The work on this project has already commenced in some cities of Haryana. Currently, there is only one railway station in Gurugram with two platforms and not every train passing through it halts at the station. Once the new railway system is developed, Gurugram residents can expect improved connectivity. The residents will no longer have to go to Delhi for their travel requirements.
The railway station in Gurugram is located in old parts of the city and witness the stoppage of a few passenger trains. Apart from local trains and passenger trains to Jaipur and Ahmedabad, there are not many trains which pass from the railway station. There have been several demands by residents of Gurugram for a long time to have another railway station as well as renovating the existing one. Since the existing railway station could not be extended further, public officials proposed to develop a new railway station in Gurugram. Another issue with the existing railway station is that accessibility to the station is quite inconvenient especially for New Gurugram residents. Poor maintenance is another problem.
