Nearly Completed 99% of Dwarka Expressway Construction in Haryana Region
The Haryana section of the Dwarka Expressway, which spans 18.9 km out of the total 29 km, from Shiv-Murti near IGI Airport to Kherki Daula toll in Gurugram via Dwarka, is nearing completion. An inspection of the construction progress was carried out by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Gurugram, Nishant Kumar Yadav, along with officials from the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA).
Upon completion, the expressway will feature a grand total of 16 access-controlled lanes, which will include a dedicated three-lane service road designed to improve the flow of traffic. Delhi commissioner Nishant Kumar Yadav stated that this elevated urban expressway will be a remarkable achievement in the country’s road infrastructure, benefiting not only Gurugram but also the entire NCR region.
Nirman K Jambhulkar, the Project Director of NHAI, mentioned that the estimated cost of the project is approximately Rs 9,000 crore. The expressway has been divided into four sections, with 10.01 km in two areas allocated for the Delhi region, while the Haryana region covers 18.9 km in two areas. Construction in both sections of Haryana is nearly 99% complete, and it is expected that both parts will be operational by July. The work in the Delhi region will be finished by 2024.
Impressive statistics about the project include the usage of 2 lakh MT of steel, which is 30 times more than what was used in the construction of the Eiffel Tower, and the utilization of 20 lakh cubic meters of concrete, which is six times more than the amount used in the construction of Burj Khalifa. Additionally, the construction involved an unprecedented transplantation of 12,000 trees in India.
Pankaj Bansal, the Director of M3M India, expressed excitement about the anticipated opening of the Dwarka Expressway in 2023, emphasizing its potential to significantly reduce travel time between Gurugram and Delhi. State-of-the-art technologies such as Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), Advanced Traffic Management Systems, Toll Management Systems, CCTV cameras, and surveillance will be integrated to ensure traffic ease and passenger safety along the expressway.
