The local administration has announced its intention to conduct a comprehensive safety review of the Dwarka Expressway. The Haryana portion of the expressway, which has faced significant delays over the past decade, is expected to be completed by June 15. In preparation for the expressway’s inauguration, a dedicated road safety team will assess the highway to identify and address any areas that may pose a risk of accidents.

“The safety of commuters is our utmost priority in any road project. As the completion of the expressway draws near, we are committed to achieving Vision Zero in this area. Our aim is to ensure that the highway is devoid of any accident-prone locations. We have also sought input from residents residing along the expressway, as they are the best judges of convenience and safety,” stated DC Nishant Yadav.

Officials have indicated that traffic will soon commence on the 18.9-km stretch of the Dwarka Expressway falling within Gurugram, while the 10.1-km section in Delhi is slated for completion next year.

Construction of the Haryana segment, spanning 29 km from Shivmurti near Indira Gandhi International Airport to Dwarka near Kherki Daula toll plaza, is in its final stages. This elevated urban expressway will be the first of its kind in the country.

A tragic incident occurred two days ago when a 56-year-old woman lost her life and five others were injured in a head-on collision between their cab and a car driving in the wrong direction on the Dwarka Expressway. In response to this, Nishant Yadav, along with officials from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA), visited the site and inspected the affected stretch. As a safety measure, the NHAI has closed a loop on the expressway. Commuters previously used Pataudi Road, but it has been closed for the past two months for repairs, leaving the only option for commuters to pass through Kherki Daula toll plaza towards the Dwarka Expressway. However, in an attempt to avoid paying the toll, some commuters removed the barricades installed by the NHAI and began driving on the wrong side.
