The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has temporarily closed the cloverleaf section of Dwarka Expressway in Gurugram for public access. This closure is due to ongoing construction work on the expressway. Barricades have been set up to prevent vehicles from entering the area, and individuals found trespassing will face legal action.

The Gurugram District Information and Public Relations Officer (DIPRO) took to Twitter to notify commuters about the closure. The NHAI has closed the cloverleaf of Dwarka Expressway to the general public, according to a statement by the DIPRO. This closure is a result of the ongoing construction work on the expressway. NHAI officials have also emphasized that legal action will be taken against anyone who violates or trespasses the barricades.”

The completion of the Gurgaon section of Dwarka Expressway is nearing, with activities such as the installation of crash and noise barriers, lane markings, and electrical and cleaning work currently underway. In May, an NHAI official confirmed the upcoming inauguration of the 18.9 km stretch of the expressway in Gurgaon, scheduled for this month.

The cloverleaf structure at Dwarka Expressway, touted as India’s largest, boasts a circumference of over 2 km and features ramps on all four sides. It is considered a larger version of the cloverleaf at Dhaula Kuan in Delhi.

Initially announced in 2007, the Dwarka Expressway was conceived as a northern ring road between Shiv Murti and Kherki Daula. Construction on the Gurgaon section commenced in November 2019, with an original deadline of 24 months. However, the project has faced multiple delays attributed to challenges such as utility relocation, land disputes, the COVID-19 pandemic, and construction bans resulting from high pollution levels in Delhi-NCR.

Furthermore, an eight-month suspension of work occurred after a section of the road near Daultabad Chowk collapsed in March 2021, further contributing to the project’s overall delay.
