The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) is devising plans to redevelop two significant roads to enhance commuting between NH-48 and Dwarka Expressway. The initial stretch, spanning approximately 4.9 kilometers, extends from IFFCO Chowk to Mahavir Chowk. The second stretch covers around 6.5 kilometers from Old Railway Road to Dwarka Expressway. Tenders have already been issued to prepare a comprehensive project report for the strengthening and upgrading of these roads.

A senior GMDA official stated, “Our aim is to improve connectivity, especially for individuals traveling from Jhajjar to the city, so that old Gurgaon can benefit from improved and more efficient transportation. Currently, most commuters rely on the Basai flyover and then navigate through Hero Honda Chowk.” The redevelopment project will primarily focus on improving approximately 11 kilometers of roads that are currently in poor condition.

The plan to upgrade the roads from IFFCO Chowk to Dwarka Expressway received approval during the 48th meeting of the core planning committee of the Authority in October of the previous year. In addition to resurfacing and strengthening, the project will also consider measures like on-street parking to address congestion issues within the city.

Furthermore, the official stated, “We will hire a consultant to create an elaborate project report that will assess factors such as traffic volume, on-street parking availability, central dividers, service roads, and other potential measures to improve commuting.

Local residents have expressed their appreciation for the decision to revamp these crucial sections of old Gurgaon. Kalyan Singh Sharma, a social activist and resident of Sector 14, said, “It is a positive step that authorities are finally paying attention to this stretch, which is not only congested but also has some severely damaged patches. If they can address the encroachment issue, it will undoubtedly improve traffic flow.”

Suraj Bhola, the general secretary of the RWA in Sector 9A, emphasized the importance of focusing on improving traffic mobility. The focus should extend beyond surface-level solutions and instead prioritize road design that alleviates traffic congestion, avoiding the creation of additional issues. During rush hours, commuters often face traffic jams near Kaman Sarai police station,” he remarked.
