New Metro Connectivity Approved for Gurugram and Dwarka Expressway within Four Years
The approval of metro connectivity from HUDA City Centre to Cyber City, with a spur to Dwarka Expressway in Gurugram, is expected to bring significant improvements to the region’s infrastructure. Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal stated that this development will support the growth of industries, leading to a potential increase of 17 lakh employment opportunities by 2030-21, compared to 6.25 lakhs in 2019-20.
The project, estimated to cost over ₹5400 crore, will be jointly funded by the Central and State governments, as well as external assistance from the European Investment Board (EIB) and the World Bank (WB). The government aims to complete the project within four years from the date of its sanction. The expected daily ridership is projected to reach 7.26 lakhs in 2031 and further rise to 8.81 lakhs in 2041. The required land for the elevated metro line is being provided by the State government.
One notable aspect of this project is its aim to connect New Gurugram with Old Gurugram, including a link to the Indian Railway station. The future phase of the project will also provide connectivity to the IGI airport, contributing to overall economic development in the area.
The impact of this metro connectivity extends beyond transportation, with significant implications for the real estate sector and the local economy. Pradeep Aggarwal, Chairman of Signature Global, emphasized the potential for the real estate industry in the Dwarka Expressway and New Gurgaon areas to benefit from improved infrastructure, generating investment opportunities and employment.
Mohit Jain, Managing Director of Krisumi Corporation, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the positive prospects for the real estate sector in the same regions. He emphasized the expected surge in demand for residential properties due to the nearing completion of the Dwarka Expressway and the announcement of metro connectivity, attracting both end users and investors.
