NHAI has given Approval for the Integration of Dwarka Expressway with Sector Roads in Gurugram
NHAI Chairman Santosh Kumar Yadav has granted initial approval for the proposal to integrate the Dwarka Expressway with sector roads in Gurugram, according to officials. During an inspection of the Gurugram section of the expressway, representatives from the Gurugram district administration reported that only a small amount of work remains on the stretch, indicating that it could soon be opened for traffic.
On Saturday, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) agreed to acquire land at eight crucial points along the Dwarka Expressway under the NHAI Act to facilitate connectivity between sector roads in the city and the highway. NHAI Chairman Santosh Kumar Yadav, during his visit and inspection of the Gurugram stretch of the expressway, granted in-principle approval for the proposal.
Present during the inspection, Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) Chief Executive Officer PC Meena mentioned that they had previously discussed the acquisition proposal with the NHAI Chairman. The GMDA is set to submit a formal proposal within a week and is prepared to deposit the necessary funds for land acquisition. The NHAI will be responsible for building the required infrastructure, and the land acquisition process under the NHAI Act is expected to proceed smoothly.
During his visit, the NHAI Chairman also instructed officials to implement the Miyawaki method to create a green stretch near Kherki Daula cloverleaf. This method allows for intensive tree planting in a limited area, resulting in high-density greenery.
The Chairman’s visit commenced with an NHAI-organized exhibition, highlighting the Dwarka Expressway project. Subsequently, he inspected the expressway section from Bajghera to Kherki Daula, accompanied by GMDA CEO PC Meena and Gurugram Deputy Commissioner Nishant Kumar Yadav.
The Dwarka Expressway, stretching 29 km, is being developed in four phases. The project, valued at ₹7,000 crore, was handed over by the Haryana government to NHAI in 2016 after facing several delays.
A senior NHAI official stated that the Chairman’s visit was unplanned and aimed to review the progress of the expressway project, as well as motivate contractors and officials to expedite the work. The inauguration of the expressway is expected to be carried out by Prime Minister Narendra Modi next year.
